E-Bike Racks & Bags: Carry Gear on Your Trailblazer

Trailblazer heavy duty rear rack and pannier bag mounted on an HPC e-bike

Carrying gear is one of the best reasons to own an e-bike, but a full-suspension bike makes it harder than a commuter does. The rear wheel moves through its travel, there is no standard rack mount, and a badly mounted load can upset the handling. If you want an e-bike rear rack for a Trailblazer, this guide explains what to look for and what is in HPC's own Trailblazer Heavy Duty Rear Rack + Bag Combination.

Why racks are different on a full-suspension e-bike

The 2026 Trailblazer is a full-carbon, full-suspension trail bike with 160mm of travel up front and 155mm at the rear, as described in The HPC Trailblazer Lineup Explained. A bike like this has no standard rack mounts, so a rack needs to be designed to fit it and attach to the frame properly. That is the reason to choose a purpose-fit kit instead of a generic clamp-on.

It also matters how much weight a rack is rated for. Overlanders, campers and hunters carry bedrolls, food, water and tools, and those loads add up quickly. A higher rating gives you margin for the real world.

What is in the Trailblazer Heavy Duty Rear Rack + Bag kit

HPC built this kit for serious off-roaders, overlanders, campers and weekend warriors. According to the product page, it is a direct bolt-on installation, and HPC sets it up from the warehouse so it is ready to put right onto your Trailblazer. The kit comes with:

  • Old Man Mountain (OMM) rear rack, with a 70 lb weight capacity
  • Custom rear axle
  • Topeak pannier bag, 1,380 cubic inches of storage
  • Frame mounts
  • Heavy duty zip ties
  • All necessary hardware

It lists at $400. Because it ships as a matched kit with its own axle and frame mounts, it is not a universal rack.

Which bikes it fits, and one important exclusion

The Old Man Mountain rack in this kit is the rack HPC fits to the Trailblazer and the Trailblazer AT. The most important thing to know: Rohloff builds do not work with these racks. If you are ordering a Trailblazer with a Rohloff hub, this kit is not the right choice. (Drivetrain options vary by model, so check your configuration before you order.) If you are unsure about your bike, contact our team and we will confirm before you buy.

Load limits and handling

The OMM rack is rated for 70 lb. Treat that as a ceiling for the whole load, including the bag itself, not a target. Some practical guidance for anyone carrying weight on a bike with a powerful motor:

  • Weigh your load, do not guess. A full bag of water and tools gets heavy fast.
  • Pack heavy items low and close to the frame. Weight high and far back makes the front end feel light.
  • Balance the load. Use the pannier for dense items and keep the rest light and secured.
  • Expect different handling. Braking distances grow and the bike feels different through corners and on steep descents. Ride more conservatively until you know how it behaves.
  • Re-check hardware after your first rides and before every trip. Vibration on rough trails can loosen bolts.

Packing tips for overlanding, camping and hunting trips

  • Plan by weight, not volume. The pannier offers 1,380 cubic inches, but the 70 lb rack rating is usually the limit you hit first.
  • Keep spares and tools easy to reach, such as a tube, pump, multitool and chain tool.
  • Carry water low. It is dense and it shifts the center of gravity.
  • Do not hang loose straps near the wheel or brake rotor. Secure everything fully.
  • Mind your battery. Extra weight means more energy per mile, so plan range with margin. Our fat-tire e-bike guide and Trailblazer AT for overlanders cover trip-ready builds.

Check the rules for the land you plan to ride. Many parks, forests and hunting areas restrict motorized or electric bikes, and the rules depend on the class and power of your bike. Always confirm local regulations before you head out.

Is the rack and bag kit right for you?

If you ride a Trailblazer or Trailblazer AT without a Rohloff hub and you want to carry overnight or hunting gear, this kit is a ready-made, bolt-on way to do it, built around a 70 lb rack rating. HPC supplies the matching axle and mounts, so there is no guesswork mixing parts. Availability can change, so check the product page for current stock.
